Most of these problems are caused by one thing: the failure to adequately prepare. As with most things in life, it is a good idea to analyze the situation and formulate a plan before you begin. Jumping blindly, without objectives or goals only sets you up for failure.

That being said, you do not need to spend weeks or months to prepare. You just need to fill in a few simple steps:

1. Determine if your child is ready to begin potty training

This is the most important factor to consider. If your child is not ready both physically and emotionally, it will be much more difficult than it should be.

2. Teach the process

Before the process of potty training boys begins teaching him the bathroom and more specifically the toilet. Books and videos are very effective, as well as watching dad (a boy obviously can relate better than mom dad).

3. Buying a Potty Chair

Full size toilet (and the adapter itself) can be frightening for a child in learning. Keep it simple and get a small pot. You'll be glad you did.
