Potty training boys - the epic battle between toddler and wc
The time has come. You too expensive he had with layers Cookie Monster and you can not deal with the smell for one more day. You have decided that this morning, little Johnny will start potty training boys and learning to use the bathroom like a big boy. How hard can it really? You ask him if he needs to go potty, he'll say yes, run to the bathroom, and all will be well with the world. Later that night, your Facebook status to read, "Wow, this thing potty training boys, it's easy!"
Unfortunately, this is not reality. For many, the toilet training process is extremely frustrating and time consuming. You plan a cooperative effort between you and your child, but your son draws a line in the sand and starts a war housetraining. Sounds familiar?
Most of these problems are caused by one thing: the failure to adequately prepare. As with most things in life, it is a good idea to analyze the situation and formulate a plan before you begin. Jumping blindly, without objectives or goals only sets you up for failure.
That being said, you do not need to spend weeks or months to prepare. You just need to fill in a few simple steps:
1. Determine if your child is ready to begin potty training
This is the most important factor to consider. If your child is not ready both physically and emotionally, it will be much more difficult than it should be.
2. Teach the process
Before the process of potty training boys begins teaching him the bathroom and more specifically the toilet. Books and videos are very effective, as well as watching dad (a boy obviously can relate better than mom dad).
3. Buying a Potty Chair
Full size toilet (and the adapter itself) can be frightening for a child in learning. Keep it simple and get a small pot. You'll be glad you did.
